When I visited France last summer ('97), Ramses were stacked high in the book store. It seemed everybody were hooked in this book. And now the waiting is over, it finally reached United States! I was impatient reading the first volume since we all knew Ramses is going to be a king. But now reading the second volume, I love it. It is easy to read since each chapters are short so I want to go on and on. However, I was rather disappointed since I learned from my French friend that the book is written in mysterious tone which I do not find it in the translation. I can't wait to read the sequal, Waner Book should at least publish semi-monthly.
I have read this book first in French and then in English, and I absolutely love it. The translation is very good because it captures the senses of the original. The life of Ramses II is not what people usually expect, and it explains a lot about his relationship with Moses. This book can be read by all ages, and I strongly recommend it! You will love the other 4 volumes as well.
This second installment of Christian Jacq's magnum opus continues where the first left off. Ramses' father is gone but in his place is a host of new villians, plot twists and story lines. It's a quick, entertaining read with another cliff hanger ending. If you get too hung up on history, stay away. The history is good as far as it goes but this series is about 60% fiction with just a touch of fantasy thrown in. If only WarnerBooks wouldn't wait so long between volumes!
The first volume was a plausible view of what might have been. Although it is still a good read, volume 2 has more fantasy than history and is less believable. I had planned to read all 5 installments but must admit that if volume 3 doesn't pick up the pace it will be the last.
The second book of Ramses' Saga is very good. It shows how powerfull Egypt was, how eager the egyptians were to statisfy their gods and how beautifull Egypt must be. At the same time it shows the big confrontation of believes between the Pharao and his best friend Moses. It's a book to read.
Absorbing page turner. Each character is beautifully created and brought to life. It's as if you're standing in Memphis by Ramses' side. Eagerly awating the publication of further novels.
This book gives a person who doesn't have much historical background a great chance to experience the magic that was Ancient Egypt.
I Can't wait till the third volume. I loved the first one and now I won't be able to put down the third
