L. David Marquet wrote TURN THE SHIP AROUND based on his own experience. He describes how he turned a crew of followers into leaders. Most of the situations on the submarine Santa Fe you will recognize as similar as in your own business, company, department. Marquets acting as leader on the submarine is brilliant – sure. But what if you have a staff that is very, very critical about all changes you would do in business? Therefore the book gives no answer. But Marquet gives very good tips how to focus on your goals, how to take the crew with you on the journey. He also tells the reader about the problems with repeating messages like mantras until staff will spiritualize. He tells awareness about falling back in old habits and to have the goal in mind on the long run, not the short-term achievements.All in all a good book that gives the leader practical tips out of practical experiences. By the way – there is one slogan that I adapted to my business: “There’s no THEY on Santa Fe…â€
Qualität der CDs leider schlecht.. bei den ersten drei CD's (Danach hab ich gar nicht mehr geprüft und retourniert) sind jeweils die letzten beiden Tracks nicht lesbar..Fürchterliches Geräusche und Geknacke bis dann der CD Player die CD wieder auswirft.. Vom Inhalt ( ich habe dann doch eine CD zu ca.4/5.tel gehört) ist es ganz ok, aber auch nicht berauschend, da hatte ich schon bessere Audiobooks. Zu schnell gesprochen und etwas zu monoton. Erfordert zuviel Konzentration da zuzuhören. Deswegen 2 Sterne anstatt nur einem. Empfehlung: Buch kaufen !
Das Buch ist kurz und knackig geschrieben. Besteht aus recht kurzen Kapiteln, die immer dem gleichen Aufbau folgen: Es gibt ein Problem, es wird eine Lösung vorgestellt, dann wird erklärt was warum geklappt hat - oder eben auch nicht. Das passiert immer anhand von kurzen Beispielen, die natürlich aus dem Alltag eines U-Boot-Kommandanten stammen, aber auch mit wenig Phantasie auf viele andere Bereiche angewendet werden können. Am Ende jedes Kapitels gibt es noch eine kurze Zusammenfassung und einige Fragen, die man sich selbst stellen kann um Ansätze für die eigene Situation zu finden.
Turn the ship around! is a great read for anyone who will ever need to lead people.Captain Marquet describes in detailed real life examples how he and his team implemented the leader-leader approach on his submarine and how the tools they used improved their situation and permeated the US submarine force.The important part to note is that the leader-leader mentality got so ingrained in the crew that it stayed with the boat even after Captain Marquet moved on to his next assigment.

Absolut lesenswert für alle die sich mit agiler Führung und Selbstverantwortung auseinandersetzen (möchten). Bereits ein Klassiker, der schön zeigt, wie man agile Strukturen aufbaut, auch wenn der konkrete Fall vielleicht etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig ist.
The book is very well readable and entertaining, while at the same time eye-opening! The best thing is, that the author doesn't just propose his approach as "the one and only valid way" of doing things - but also shares how he struggled with certain things and his thoughts on that.I'm impressed on how much his approach also applies to other industries like the IT - so I guess it might apply almost everywhere...
I work for an international organization, and I miss much of the leader-leader leadership described in this book.I doesn't matter if you are in a leading position or not, this book may help you improve the way you do your work.Very inspiring book.
